The profession of massage therapy is governed by the Regulated Health Professions Act
(which also licences physicians, nurses, dentists and chiropractors) and the
Massage Therapy Act.
Only members of the
College of Massage Therapists of Ontario
can use the title Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) or Massage Therapist (MT).
RMTs must complete a 2-3 year diploma program and pass regulated
exams in anatomy, physiology, pathology, physical assessment, neurology, treatments, ethics and other subjects.
They must perform at least 150 supervised clinical hours.
To maintain their high professional standards
and quality of care, massage therapists participate in continuing
education and an ongoing Quality Assurance Programme.
Dylan McEwen RMT
is a native of Swansea and Director of Swansea Massage Clinic.
After receiving her first massage at 15, she knew she'd found her life's work. She chose Kikkawa College
for her studies because she admired their instructors and their founder, Sensei Mitsuki Kikkawa.
As she gathered experience in a natural pain clinic, seniors' residence, spas, and her own practice, Dylan
honed the vision of her clinic as a curative and creative resource in the community
she calls home.
One of the highlights of Dylan's continuing studies is her certification in Thai massage, earned after
five weeks' study in Chaing Mai, Thailand.
As she gathered experience in a natural pain clinic, seniors' residence, spas, and her own practice, Dylan
honed the vision of her clinic as a curative and creative resource in the community
she calls home.
